Nice weekend around the French Provence: Arles, Pont du Gard, Orange, Avignon
Day 12014/07/26
The anfi theatre is still used two thousand years before it was build. Bull fights are done every year in this magnificent place.
If you have watched the film Ronin you will remember Rober De Niro running around the anfi theatre of Arles.
Arles is a small village near the Rhone see, but with a lot of history. I have loved walking around it and discovering this city.
Le pont du Gard, another marvelous creation of the Roman empire. If you check a 5 euros bill you will discover this aqueduct.
Day 22014/07/27
Romans loved to build Triumphal Arch in their village. It was a symbol of the empire's power. In Orange we can see a really nice one.
Orange has one of the most impressive and well-conserved theatres of the roman empire. The price is around 10 euros and it is completely worth.
The well-known Pont d'Avignon crosses anymore the Rhone river. Louis XIV decided to not rebuild anymore as it has oftenly fell.
The Pope's palace. During the XIV century there was a division in the Catholic church that lasted around 100 years, one Pope lived in Rome and another in this palace in Avignon.
