We drove a long hour just like 3 hours from Sapporo.
We finally arrived at Biei.
We enjoyed panorama drive at Biei patch work fields.
Farmer grow many varieties of vegetables and each field have different color.
It looks like patch works.
There are many people coming to Biei in these days from all over the world.
This is blue pond, one of the must place to visit in Hokkaido.
Pond is colored milky blue because of the continents of water and the mud of the lake.
Water contains aluminum hydroxide and mud of the lake contains sulfur.
White birch trees are standing decayed so we may only see this scenery within 5 years or less.
We enjoyed walking around pond and took nice pictures.
This is our today's lunch.
This is "San-to-ka" ramen, literally mountain, head, fire.
San-to-ka is one of the most famous ramen restaurant in Hokkaido and they also have many branch restaurant even outside of Hokkaido area.
Soup is pork bone and salt based.
This is one of my favorite ramen in Hokkaido.
After lunch we went to Farm Tomita where is famous for its lavender cultivation.
Mr. Tomita became so famous because of his lavender cultivation but at the beginning he had big trouble taking care of his lavender.
There were no need for lavender at that time.
However, one photographer took a picture of Farm Tomita and introduced it all over Japan.
Thanks to the photographer farm became famous.
You can also see a nice view of Mt. Tokachi mountain range.
My guests requested "Unagi" broiled eel for their dinner.
I joined the dinner as well.
Taste was fantastic!
It takes long time to cook Japanese Unagi.
Cleaning eels at first, boiling them for the next step to make unagi softer, then broil ing them with charcoal fire, dipping in the special source and broiling, then repeat dipping and broiling.
It takes at least 1.5 hour to cook.
It is long but worth waiting.
We started visiting Lake Shikotsu this day.
Lake Shikotsu is the second deepest lake in Japan, after Lake Tazawa.
We enjoyed sightseeing boat in the morning.
Lake Shikotsu was formed 40 to 50 thousand years ago and this lake is famous for column joint structure at the bottom of the lake.
After lunch we visit Mt. Usu rope way.
From observatory deck we could see a miracle mountain Mt. new Showa.
In Japan we have two calendar Gregory Usu Calendar which is common all over the world and Gengo calender which is unique and only used in Japan.
We use Gengo such as Meiji, Taisho, Showa, Heisei which changes every time our emperor changes.
Mt. new showa suddenly came out after big eruption of Mt. Usu during Showa era.
We had a nice picture!
We enjoyed walking at Sakaimachi historical street whrere very old buildings are still remain and used as souvenir shops, restaurants, cafe and food stalls.
This is Kitaichi grass shop, literally north No.1 grass.
Kitaichi grass was developed for its demand of grass lamp in mid 19th century.
They still have great power in Otaru area for making beautiful grass souvenirs.
